Summary

Leena is too young to feel stuck。
Eileen is too old to start over。
Maybe it’s time for The Switch…

Ordered to take a two-month sabbatical after blowing a big presentation at work, Leena escapes to her grandmother Eileen's house for some overdue rest。 Newly single and about to turn eighty, Eileen would like a second chance at love。 But her tiny Yorkshire village doesn’t offer many eligible gentlemen… So Leena proposes a solution: a two-month swap。 Eileen can live in London and look for love, and Leena will look after everything in rural Yorkshire。

But with a rabble of unruly OAPs to contend with, as well as the annoyingly perfect – and distractingly handsome – local schoolteacher, Leena learns that switching lives isn’t straightforward。 Back in London, Eileen is a huge hit with her new neighbours, and with the online dating scene。 But is her perfect match nearer to home than she first thought?

I laughed。 I cried。 I cheered。 Eileen is the grandmother I didn’t have。 The community Eileen brought together and created no matter her location warmed my heart。 Anyone anywhere would be lucky to have an Eileen in their life。

This was a lovely read。 It was sweet and interesting。 As the title suggests this book was about two people switching their lives。 Grandma switched to her daughter’s life in London and her granddaughter went down to in the village where her Grandma lives。 It was funny and a little sad but I loved it。

3 1/2 stars means and I enjoyed it but it was nothing special。 It was a nice, light-hearted read。 While predictable and not likely to happen in real life, but it was a fun and different storyline。

Liked it more than I expected! A very cute feel good story。 A bit predictable and somewhat cheesy but I didn't really expect much else。 I saw Leena's love story coming from a mile away and it wasn't the most compelling, but Eileen's was a bit more interesting。 Liked it more than I expected! This was a very enjoyable read! I loved the characters, especially the grandmother。 So nice to see the character of an older woman given some depth, meaning, and productivity in a novel。 The pacing and length of the story were just right。 On the Audible version, the narration was fantastic!

Really a 4。5。 Characters are adorable, deals with loss and how you never truly heal but instead learn to cope, and has an adorable small town English setting。

Another excellent listen。 I really like Ms O'Leary's stories, funny but yet they have serious overtones。 In this one, Leena & Eileen Cotton, granddaughter and grandmother swap living spaces for two months。 Grandmother Eileen heads to London to live in Leena's shared flat and Leena moves back home to her Grandmother's house。 The influences they have on each other's neighbours teaches them they still have a lot to learn about life, love and coping with tragedy。 The narration is excellent especiall Another excellent listen。 I really like Ms O'Leary's stories, funny but yet they have serious overtones。 In this one, Leena & Eileen Cotton, granddaughter and grandmother swap living spaces for two months。 Grandmother Eileen heads to London to live in Leena's shared flat and Leena moves back home to her Grandmother's house。 The influences they have on each other's neighbours teaches them they still have a lot to learn about life, love and coping with tragedy。 The narration is excellent especially Alison Steadman who plays the part of Eileen。 I will continue to be on the lookout for more works by this author。 。。。more

I would rate this a 10 if possible。 I am not really romantic story type fan, but her humor and warm feeling just makes me laugh and feel lighter。

Lovely readAfter reading The Flat Share I wasn’t sure what to expect from this but it turned out to be a really lovely story。 It was sweet and warming, an easy read。

very boring tbh and not enough romance

This was very cute。 I liked the grandma/granddaughter relationship and the premise for them to switch lives。 It had a somewhat Fredrik Backman feel to it with the large community of characters (many of them elderly) and the treacly moments。 Still, O'Leary's dry humor was there to sharpen things up, especially in the older Eileen's voice。 The idea that nothing brings clarity to your life quite like distance from it is well executed throughout the plot。 I think O'Leary seemed to connect more with This was very cute。 I liked the grandma/granddaughter relationship and the premise for them to switch lives。 It had a somewhat Fredrik Backman feel to it with the large community of characters (many of them elderly) and the treacly moments。 Still, O'Leary's dry humor was there to sharpen things up, especially in the older Eileen's voice。 The idea that nothing brings clarity to your life quite like distance from it is well executed throughout the plot。 I think O'Leary seemed to connect more with Eileen's character because it feels like the book truly belongs to her。 Leena feels more sparse and the novel skips through her storyline。 I could've used more scenes on her side。 There is romance here, but it a side-side-side plot to the main point of the book。 I look forward to more O'Leary novels。 She's definitely a favorite for me。 Her books are very fun。 。。。more

This is a lovely predictable story that is easy to write off as a "beach read" but I give it high marks because Beth O'Leary does a wonderful job painting colorful quirky characters。 They are developed enough to really understand and relate to in a personal way。 So yes, I was able to predict who winds up with whom in the end but I still couldn't put the book down for long because I enjoyed the read so much。 The premise is that a young woman and her grandma both have issues in their lives they ne This is a lovely predictable story that is easy to write off as a "beach read" but I give it high marks because Beth O'Leary does a wonderful job painting colorful quirky characters。 They are developed enough to really understand and relate to in a personal way。 So yes, I was able to predict who winds up with whom in the end but I still couldn't put the book down for long because I enjoyed the read so much。 The premise is that a young woman and her grandma both have issues in their lives they need to sort out so they decide to switch lives for awhile in order to experience different living environments, different people, and find a way to reach for happiness。 。。。more

I thought this book was going to be a clichéd 'Freaky Friday' story。 But it was so much better。 A brilliant read about how living someone else's life can be very eye opening and give insight into what needs to change in yours。 I thought this book was going to be a clichéd 'Freaky Friday' story。 But it was so much better。 A brilliant read about how living someone else's life can be very eye opening and give insight into what needs to change in yours。 。。。more

Very predictable and not my cup of tea。 Even though I first liked the idea of the grandmother and granddaughter duo, I quickly came to realise that I can’t stand both characters。 I don’t know why but my personality didn’t match with them。 Also, when I figure out the ending of the book from the very first chapters on, it becomes always extremely boring for me to read。
